Haymarket, Virginia

Haymarket is a small town at the foot of the Bull Run Mountains where western Prince William County still runs to open land. The incorporated town is a few blocks with a couple of thousand residents; around it, the Haymarket address covers large newer communities, rural parcels, and a stretch of Route 15 that has become wine country.

The town

Washington Street and Route 55 carry the town’s few blocks of 19th-century buildings, a small museum, restaurants, and a farmers market. The town runs its own police department and services, and residents pay a town tax on top of county taxes. Houses inside the town limits are few and do not come up often.

Around it

The largest single piece of the local market is Dominion Valley Country Club, a gated community northeast of town with an Arnold Palmer–designed golf course, clubhouses, pools, sports facilities, and an age-restricted section. It holds much of the newer housing in the area, and it comes with club and association fees worth studying closely before buying. Piedmont Mountainview, Regency, Greenhill Crossing, and the Villages of Piedmont fill in with newer single-family, townhouse, and 55-plus product between the town and Gainesville.

In the other direction, the slopes and gaps of the Bull Run Mountains hold wooded, larger-lot and rural properties — many on private wells and septic systems, which changes the inspection and maintenance picture and limits expansion in some cases.

Schools

Prince William County Public Schools serves the area, generally through the Battlefield High School pyramid, though not uniformly. Confirm the assignment for a specific address with PWCS.

Getting around

Route 15 and Route 55 meet in town, with I-66 immediately south and Route 29 nearby. There is no Metro or commuter rail in Haymarket; the Broad Run and Manassas VRE stations are a drive southeast, and park-and-ride lots, commuter buses, and the I-66 express lanes handle much of the peak-hour traffic. Dulles is roughly 30 minutes north on Route 15. Anyone commuting east daily should drive it before committing.

Nearby

The Bull Run Mountains Natural Area Preserve offers hiking close to town, Silver Lake Regional Park is a few minutes away, and Manassas National Battlefield Park sits just east. Wineries and breweries have multiplied along Route 15 and toward the mountains, which has become part of the area’s appeal.

Buying or selling here

The area holds three distinct markets: the tiny in-town stock, the amenity-heavy planned communities, and rural acreage. Buyers should be clear which one they are in, read club and association documents where they apply, and confirm utilities on rural parcels. Sellers should price against genuinely comparable properties, which in this area can mean looking well beyond the nearest few sales.
