The town
21st Street and Main Street — Business Route 7 — carry the old center, with 19th and early 20th-century houses, shops, and restaurants. Locust Grove, Hirst Farm, Mayfair, and Village Case fill in with subdivisions built from the 1990s onward, all on town water and sewer. Town residents pay a town tax on top of Loudoun County taxes, and receive town utilities and services for it.
Outside the limits, the Purcellville address reaches across farms and acreage along Route 611, Route 690, and the Blue Ridge foothills, where private wells and septic systems are the norm and only county taxes apply.
The trail
The W&OD Trail — forty-five paved miles from Arlington — ends here. The western terminus is in town, which makes Purcellville a trailhead as well as a town, and the trail is one of the genuine day-to-day amenities of living here.

Getting around
Route 7 runs through town with the bypass immediately north: Leesburg in about fifteen minutes, Tysons in an hour outside peak. Route 690 and Route 611 head into the countryside, Route 9 crosses the Blue Ridge into West Virginia.
There is no Metro station. The Silver Line’s Ashburn terminus is roughly half an hour east and is a common park-and-ride. Route 7 at peak is the limiting factor, and it deserves a test drive.

Buyers should also drive Route 7 at the hour they would commute — western Loudoun is a deliberate choice and the drive is what makes it one.
