Fairfax County

Seven Corners, Virginia

The Route 7 and Route 50 interchange west of Arlington: a dense market with a wide range of housing types, a Falls Church address, Fairfax County taxes, and long-running redevelopment plans.

Seven Corners is the area around the junction of Route 7 and Route 50 west of Arlington. It carries a Falls Church mailing address and sits entirely in Fairfax County — a distinction worth several thousand dollars a year in tax and an entirely different school division.

County, not city

The City of Falls Church is independent, with its own tax rate and its own schools. Seven Corners is not in it. Homes here pay Fairfax County taxes and attend Fairfax County Public Schools. Confirm the jurisdiction of a specific parcel before estimating either.

The name

Route 7, Route 50, and several local roads historically met in a junction with seven approaches. It was rebuilt as a grade-separated interchange decades ago and the name stuck. It is still one of the busier junctions in the region.

The market

Around the interchange are shopping centers and apartment blocks; along Leesburg Pike toward Bailey’s Crossroads, denser apartment and condominium stock. Behind them, Ravenwood and Broyhill are established mid-century single-family neighborhoods. South lies Lake Barcroft, a separate private-lake community — and lake rights there come from association membership, not proximity, so a nearby listing is not a lake-access listing unless the documents say so.

Redevelopment

Fairfax County has had planning underway for this area for years, aimed at reworking the interchange and redeveloping the commercial land around it. Timelines for work of this scale are long and they change. Anyone buying near the interchange should look at what is currently approved for that specific block rather than at the general intention.

Schools

Fairfax County Public Schools, generally the Justice High School pyramid, with some addresses assigned elsewhere. Confirm with FCPS.

Getting around

Route 7 and Route 50 meet here with I-66 close by. The East Falls Church station on the Orange and Silver lines is roughly five to ten minutes north; Arlington and the District are a short drive east. Bus service along both corridors is frequent.

Buying or selling here

Buyers get proximity to Arlington and Falls Church City at a meaningful discount, and the diligence is jurisdiction, school pyramid, and what is planned nearby. Sellers should state the county jurisdiction plainly — the tax rate is an advantage here — and be straightforward about the traffic, which buyers will notice on their first visit regardless.

Commuting

Route 7 (Leesburg Pike) and Route 50 (Arlington Boulevard) meet at the interchange, with I-66 close by. The East Falls Church Metro station on the Orange and Silver lines is roughly five to ten minutes north, and Arlington and the District are a short drive east. Bus service along both corridors is frequent.

Market

Seven Corners spans dense apartment and condominium stock along the Route 7 corridor and established mid-century single-family neighborhoods behind it. It carries a Falls Church mailing address without being in the city, which means Fairfax County taxes and county schools. Prices sit below Arlington and below the City of Falls Church for comparable space, and the location — minutes from both — is the draw. Long-running redevelopment planning for the interchange area is a real factor for anyone buying nearby.

Common questions

Is Seven Corners in the City of Falls Church?

No. It carries a Falls Church mailing address but sits in Fairfax County, which means county taxes and Fairfax County Public Schools rather than the city's own division and rate. The difference is substantial. Confirm the jurisdiction of a specific parcel before estimating either. See the [Falls Church guide](/neighborhoods/falls-church/) for the city.

Why is it called Seven Corners?

For the intersection: Route 7 and Route 50 and several local roads historically met in a complex junction with seven approaches. It was rebuilt into a grade-separated interchange decades ago, and the name stuck. It remains one of the busier road junctions in the region.

What is happening with redevelopment?

Fairfax County has had planning underway for the Seven Corners area for years, aimed at reworking the interchange and redeveloping the surrounding commercial land. Timelines for work of this kind are long and change. Anyone buying near the interchange should look at what is currently approved and planned for the specific area rather than at the general intention.

What schools serve Seven Corners?

Fairfax County Public Schools, generally the Justice High School pyramid, with some addresses assigned elsewhere. Confirm the current attendance area for a specific address with FCPS.

What is Lake Barcroft?

A private lake community south of the area with its own association and lake rights, and a distinctly different market from Seven Corners despite sharing a Falls Church address. Lake access is tied to association membership rather than to proximity, so a listing near the lake is not a listing with lake rights unless it says so and the documents support it.
