Between Old Town and Del Ray sit Alexandria’s established single-family neighborhoods: interwar and post-war houses on tree-lined streets, on lots that are generous by city standards, in the most stable market the city has outside the historic district.
The walk to the station
Much of Rosemont is within a short walk of King Street–Old Town — which is a Metro station on two lines, the Alexandria Amtrak station, and a VRE stop, all at once. A detached 1920s house within walking distance of all three and of Old Town is genuinely rare in this region, and that is what the prices here reflect.
The neighborhoods
Rosemont is the oldest and closest to the station, on the hill above King Street. Braddock Heights sits above it on the ridge with some of the city’s larger older houses. North Ridge runs newer and generally on bigger lots. Beverley Hills is a 1930s and 40s neighborhood of substantial houses on winding streets with its own civic identity. East and west, the area meets Del Ray’s bungalows and the Seminary Hill area.

These neighborhoods are not within the Old and Historic Alexandria District. Alexandria does have other conservation and design provisions that apply in places, and some individual properties carry their own protections. Confirm what governs a specific property — do not infer it from the neighborhood.

For this vintage: roof, HVAC, electrical service and panel, plumbing material, windows, and any remaining knob-and-tube wiring or galvanised pipe. Many have been renovated, sometimes repeatedly — ask about permits for past work. On the sloping streets, basements and drainage deserve specific attention.

King Street–Old Town for Metro, Amtrak, and VRE. Route 1 and Russell Road run north to south, I-395 is west, and Old Town is a walk or a five-minute drive.
