Lovettsville sits at Loudoun County’s northern tip, a couple of miles from the Potomac. It was settled largely by German-speaking families out of Pennsylvania in the 18th century — the German Settlement, a name the town still uses for its heritage and its autumn Oktoberfest.
The town
A few blocks around East Broad Way and the Berlin Turnpike, with older houses, a town square, and shops, plus subdivisions from the 1990s onward at Lovettsville Town Center and Ridgeview. All on town water and sewer, with a town tax on top of Loudoun County taxes.
Outside the limits, Between the Hills, Milltown Road, and the corridor toward the river run to farms and acreage on wells and septic systems.
The Maryland commute
This is what distinguishes Lovettsville from the rest of western Loudoun. The Point of Rocks bridge is a few minutes north, and MARC commuter rail from Point of Rocks or Brunswick in Maryland runs directly into Washington. From a corner of the county where the drive would be prohibitive, that makes a rail commute genuinely practical.
